Committee reports:
Program/Community Outreach-Oudy Acosta Perez reported that she has requested the county facility at Long Lake Park on February 22, 2005 for our annual retreat. She is waiting for a response. She also emailed Bill Boyette about speaking on the topic of mental and emotional abuse at the April quarterly meeting and is waiting confirmation. This will also be our annual awards event.
Education: Sue Shultz reported back on presentations that she has completed recently including the Community response training she and Susan Vitali-Olsen did in Vancouver, WA. Sue also spoke at the Women's conference and gave a presentation with Sandy Robbins to medical professionals at Harrison Hospital. Sue Shultz also brought up the issue of providing training to Law Enforcement as it has been a few years since there has been one. This would be a team approach again with a Law Enforcement officer, and advocate and a prosecutor.
Bridging the Gaps: Claire Bradley reported that the next meeting will be Nov. 4, 2004, 12:00-1:00 pm at the Child Support Building in Port Orchard. The topic for discussion will be doing another Judicial Roundtable.
Faith Committee: Debbie Brockman reported that the Faith committee partnered with the YWCA/Alive program to host the annual Faith Forum for the Y's Week Without Violence event. There were approximately 25 in attendance and was very informative. The Faith committee will do the planning for the January quarterly in the topic will be the Faith community's response to DV.
Substance Abuse: No report
Respect group: Sandy Robbins reported that the posters for the School Poster Contest are being picked up and they will be displayed at the Silverdale Waterfront Café in Old Town Silverdale and the judging will take place there.
Perpetrator Treatment Providers Coalition: Debbie Brockman reported that they met in September and discussed ongoing issues such as Gal's ordering individuals out of one treatment program and into another. They have taken steps to remedy this.
Minority Services: Oudy Acosta Perez reported that she attended a Hispanic Roundtable with other community members who provide services to Spanish speaking clients. Very informative and she is looking into more participation from the community in this regard.
Medical: Sandy Robbins reported that she and Sue Shultz gave a presentation at Harrison Hospital for staff. She is looking into gaining more exposure for their group through the physician's newsletter.
Membership committee: Jackie Aitchison was thanked for attending and left prior to discussion of potential board candidate. A report on the individuals that have been interviewed for potential board positions was given. Applicants include Rebecca Jones Garcia with Adult Protective Services, Jackie Aitchison with the YWCA , Laura Grayum, a paramedic with Olympic Ambulance and Linda Ettel with CPS. After circulating the applications and discussing the candidates Claire Bradley made a motion that we accept Rebecca, Jackie and Laura as new board members. Debbie Brockman seconded. Motion approved.
New Business: Oudy brought the names of a family of children whose parents are currently in prison and who are in need of Christmas presents with a request that the Task Force provide financial support for these kids. After much discussion as to the pros and cons of this effort Claire Bradley made a motion that instead of providing assistance to just one family that the Task Force instead make a donation of Polaroid film to the YWCA for its annual Adopt a Family Christmas party for the purpose of pictures with Santa. Sandy Robbins seconded the motion. Motion was approved.
Sue Shultz announced that the Dec board meeting will be our annual Christmas Party and it will be held at Puerto Vallarta on Dec 14th at noon.
Sharlyne Hays made a recommendation that the board review the bylaws for any inconsistencies and/or areas in need of clarification and that we discuss them at the annual retreat. She will review the bylaws and email everyone about areas that may need addressing.
Next meeting will be Nov. 23, 2004 at the Health District.
