Board Members Not Excused: Martin Knott
Others Present: Heidi Hoke (Administrative Coordinator), Sue Nolan
(Financial Coordinator)
The meeting was called to order by Secretary, Denise Thomson.
I. Approval of Minutes: May minutes were approved as written.
II. Financial Report: The financial report from May was submitted. Board
members were reminded to
turn in their monthly Volunteer Timesheets. We got a bill for the
video "In the Line of Duty", but no one
present has possession of it or knows why we were billed for it.
The bill says someone at the KCSO has it,
so Sue will call Pete and see if he knows anything. We need to
spend $1,000 for Resource Guides and $1,210
on Resource Materials to be spent by July 31, 2001.
Sue is resigning, not renewing her contract for next year. She is
taking a job at World Vision in Federal Way.
She is also quitting her job at Project Family. She will help us out
in July with whatever we need. Sue is using
QuickBooks for our accounts. Heidi will write up a job description
ASAP.
III . Committee Reports
A. Program - notes from the last meeting were submitted. The next
Program meeting is scheduled for a week from
today, July 3 at the YWCA at 9 a.m.
1. Summit:
- Alec Stalcup is confirmed. We are going to get him
for at least a 1/2 a day, in the morning.
- We are looking at having 7-8 different breakout sessions.
Meth will be Stalcup's focus and we need
to really get the breakout's confirmed. So far we have Det.
Dave Dewey from Pierce Co., the Faith Community
breakout will talk about the housing problems (hoping to
get Martha, KCR, Kitsap Consolidated, Ardis Morrow,
and a DV survivor for the panel/consortium focusing on the
solutions, looking at partnerships), RESPECT Kitsap
Youth will do something, Lupita Patterson will also talk
about immigration issues and Patty Bland from New
Beginnings will talk about CD and DV issues. Apparently
Patty is really good and we may want her as an afternoon
speaker too.
- We need 300 binders for the Summit. Sally will look into
getting some place to donate them.
- Debbie will work on
the lunch issue.
- We really need places to donate printing
and paper. Heidi will work on getting a baseline for printing
binders. Dianne will help get quotes for printing.
- We are planning for 300 attendance.
- Still looking at $25 registration and $10 for a resource table.
- Also, the
YWCA bought fortune cookies for 55 cents each for
their Women of Achievement event. If we have the money maybe
we could do those too for the Summit.
2. Quarterly Forum: Kitsap County Meth is the focus. KC
Prosecutor Russ Hauge has also been asked to speak. We
are working on other speakers.
B. Community Education
1. Speakers Bureau/Trainings - working on a training for EMS
people.
2. Topic Specific Workgroups
a. CPS - we are dropping this category since the workgroup no
longer exists.
b. Bridging the Gap: Claire has been working on the LE
training. Not sure when the next meeting will be.
c. Faith Community Action Group:
- Working on the "It's All About
Housing" panel for the Summit.
- Also working
on Faith Forum/Pastor Panel in October which will be
entitled "Dealing with the Reality of DV".
- Don't forget
to go to the website to get more information about Faith and
DV issues. Presentations are available through
our website.
- Working with the ALIVE people about the housing
fund. Dianne is prepared to send out a letter
to the pastors/clergy, etc.
- Come October Dianne will be
stepping down as Chair of the Faith committee. Denise
and Cheryl have names from Dianne to fill the void (as if
that is at all possible!)
d. CD & DV: - Martha did a training for the YWCA.
e. RESPECT Kitsap Youth: The latest minutes are on the website.
They came up with a Mission Statement and Goals.
Denise and Cheryl, and Dayle met with people from Kitsap
County Consolidated Housing Authority about how
to get DV resources into their properties/residents.
f. Perpetrator Treatment/Victim’s Services - no report.
g. Minority Services - Oudy shared with Dayle that the MS and
B-KCHD received a grant to provide services to
Hispanic women and children ($15,000) - Starting August 13,
(every Monday) 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. a variety of services
will be provided, well baby stuff, DV, and more.
C. Membership - Denise sent out 10 applications and received 2
positive responses back, plus 2 negatives. If we don't
get more responses back, we might want to table the membership issue
until the Fall. Other membership possibilities
are the B-KCHD, a school educator/administrator, or a business HR
Manager.
IV. Old Business
A. Budget FY 01-02 : Point of clarification: the scholarship line item
would be for community people coming to us asking
for help to go to a DV training, either ours or other agencies. It
was moved and approved to pass the budget with
the extra $485 to go into the reserves.
B. Human Rights Council proposal - it passed.
C. Summer BBQ - Long Lake reservations are made. Plan on a potluck. The
family picnic is on Aug.22.
V. New Business
A Resource Guides - Heidi asked for any changes to the RG. She will make
changes and order 10,000 before July 31.
VI. Updates
A. Community Assessment on the B-KCHD website. Good statistics on our
county. Go to www.wa.gov/kitsaphealth/assessment
VII. Meeting Adjourned
Respectfully Submitted,
Heidi Hoke
