KITSAP COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
February 23, 2004 5:00 P.M.
Crossroads Neighborhood Church
Board Members Present: Sue Shultz, Kelly Pelland, Sandy Robbins, Oudy Acosta Perez, Susan Vitale-Olson, Dave Skelton, Debbie Brockman , Laurie Adamson, Tracy Flood.
Board Members Excused: Claire Bradley, Lauren Fanning, Dave Bell, Martha Voorhees, Susan Dewees.
Board Members Not Excused:
Others Present: Joan Taie (Administrative Coordinator), Jody Stewart, Benny Myers, Beverley Polhamus, Sharlene Hays (prospective board members) & Bob MacFann (PO Police Dept.)
Sue Shultz called the meeting to order.
I. Approval of Minutes: Minutes were approved for January. Suggested having the books audited. Dawn Jake was a referral 874-0404.
II. Financial Report: P&L was passed out and explained. III. Committee Reports
Program -. Picnic is going to be at Evergreen park on July 27th. Need volunteers to work on getting donations. April 25th is the awards but thinking of changing the date to May 25th to have more time.
Community Education A. Speakers Bureau/Trainings -training at Group Health went very well. Good turnout. Suggestions have been training to Women Attorney group. Work on a letter to Judges and Russ Hauge regarding training Prosecutors.
2. Topic Specific Workgroups a. Bridging the Gap: Gaps has been working on gaps in the legal system but can work on closing any gap in relation to DV services. Have been working on the no contact orders upon release, which has been implemented and is in the process of working with tribal courts and county on unified court orders that will get inputted into the system immediately.
b. Faith Community Action Group: For the past year, the FAC continued to contact individual churches to offer them information on Domestic Violence in the faith community. We were invited into several churches this year to speak to small group meetings and larger church gatherings. We offered training to lay people, pastors, youth groups and their leaders. We distributed Task Force resource pamphlets and the pamphlet specific to congregations.
Our numbers remain small but our resolve it giant! We are available to all faith groups in Kitsap County to help them with DV issues and be a resource for education and referrals.
Our goal for the coming year is to contact woman's groups in our faith community.
We are inviting all persons interested in helping bridge the gap between the faith community and DV services to join this committee. We meet the second Tuesday of every month at 11:45am at the Bremerton YWCA
c. Substance Abuse Providers: No Report
RESPECT Kitsap Youth: "Warning signs" is the Juvenile Detention Program we have been working on. Putting together a new play that we can get into the Schools. We are working on a poster contest to have at each district. Working on a pamphlet for 5-7 year olds.
b. Perpetrator Treatment/Victim's Services: Talking with Judges & Prosecutors from BI, Poulsbo, Bremerton & Port Orchard to make sure everyone is on the same page.
c. Minority Services - El Centro de la Familia has provided services to 1041 adults and 617 children. They have provided DV Victim Services, Prevention Parenting classes, Support services, Treatment/counseling availability, uniformity of court orders to ensure continuity, stability and consistency of victims safety and security via local courts/law enf. And tribal courts/tribal police.
Mondays services provided 12-2, Prevention parenting classes Mondays 2-4.
