I. Approval of Minutes: December minutes were approved.

II. Financial Report: Volunteer sheets were turned in. A P&L statement for 12/19 - 1/23 was provided and explained by Joan Taie.

III. Committee Reports

A. Program - Susan would like everyone to email her with ideas on a "catchy" title for the Summit. The topic will be on diversity and DV but "diversity" is overused and we would like something different. It has been discussed that instead of having one big speaker possibly having several each from different minority groups to speak. Also, thinking of not having the breakout rooms. Robert from SVO's office is going to talk to her about the different groups he is aware of and Helen knows someone that is a great speaker and she is going to contact her and will let Susan know. Retreat reminder: February 26th at Long Lake 8:30-1:00. Everyone needs to attend. Email Joan with agenda items.

B. Community Education

Please think about a chair for this group - it is still in need of one.

2. Topic Specific Workgroups

a. Bridging the Gap: Claire is organizing the Judicial Roundtable on 2/22 at noon. She will need copies of flyers and materials to give Judges and any interested audience members. Debbie and SVO will help her with making copies. The time is limited to about 1 hour and 15 minutes tops so the topics have been narrowed down and they are hoping to get all of them on the table in that small amount of time.

b. Faith Community Action Group: The last meeting the group reviewed what has been done. Talked about housing issues. Will be sending letters out to different faiths about funding for alternate accommodations for when shelters are full. Along with the letters will be pledge sheets with different options on how to pledge. They really want to be able to get face to face with pastors.

c. Substance Abuse Providers: Martha has been going to SAPA meetings. The want to support DV presentations to different treatment facilities. They also want DVTF to present at their staff meeting or retreat. They asked Martha to be a liaison between SAPA and DVTF.

d. RESPECT Kitsap Youth: The group met last night (1/22). It was a small group. Denise asked Candy and Jen to the retreat. Candy came up with a list of highlights for Respect 2001. The biggest highlight is the Dating Game. Denise referred to a letter sent to the RESPECT committee from Debbie Rowe. The letter stated that Planned Parenthood funded the work on the Dating Game and her son and her developed it. She included a copy of the READ ME file from the CD and wanted to ask that when the workshop is promoted that acknowledgement be made as a local product created by Planned Parenthood of Western Washington. She asked that we be aware that they are in the process of copyrighting it and is concerned about clarifying authorship on that level as well. DVTF will also be adding acknowledgement to the website.

f. Perpetrator Treatment/Victim's Services: No Report.

g. Minority Services - No Report

h. Membership - Three new board applicants were introduced to the board and voted in to join. WELCOME!!

IV. Old Business

A. Community Mobilization Interviews at the Shelter are going good. Letters with surveys to recommended individuals will be going out in a week or so. Please send contact information to Joan via email of two people that they feel would respond well. Ordering stress balls for thank you's and possibly as a fund-raiser was discussed.

B. Email Joan any Agenda items for the Retreat.

V. New Business - No new biz

VI. Updates

A. - New officers were elected for DVTF board: Debbie Brockman -Chair, Denise Thomson Vice-chair, Marilyn Wandrey, Secretary and SVO- Treasurer.

Quarterly:

Pete Hawk (probation officer, minister and Chair of Tribal DV board) and Susie Hawk (Co-founder of WAVE - Women Against Violence etc.) joined the meeting along with Sandy (assists Susie), Nancy Rae (Co-chair of WAVE) and Mary.

Their concern is mainly about funding for DV victims and perpetrators. They discussed the difference in treatment on and off the reservation. Treatment off the reservation for their residents does not work well. Their treatment is based mainly on their spirituality and tradition and their success rate is 99%. They are in need of funding also for a shelter on the reservation. They already have a site available. They also need cell phones for victims. They need to partner with another organization such as KCDVTF for assistance in achieving such funding. The Hawks have opened their home to victims and their children but are running out of room. There is a STOP grant in place but it is "earmarked" solely for the Native American women and does not help white women living on the reservation with a Native American man.

Susie Hawk's email is speakingwoman@hotmail.com. These issues were discussed and will be added to the agenda for further discussion at the retreat. They have been invited to attend.

VII. Meeting Adjourned

Respectfully Submitted,

Joan Taie
Administrative Coordinator
