TASK FORCE LIBRARY

These books and videos belong to the DV Task Force. They are available to the community as an important part of fullfilling the Task Force's Community Education mission. They are housed at the Y.W.C.A. Community Center, 905 Pacific Ave. in Bremerton. You can call the Y.W.C.A. at 360.479.0491 between 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. Monday - Friday for check out information or just drop by their location.

  • "Summit 2000--Children, Forgotten Victims of Domestic Violence"
    This is a three (3) hour tape of the two (2) keynote speakers from the KCDVTF Summit held September 26, 2000. It is the complete address of both speakers, Jackson Katz and Casey Gwinn. Each segment runs 90 mins.

  • "Bless Our Children: Preventing Sexual Abuse"
    Center for the Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence (40 min). The story of one congregation's efforts to include sexual abuse prevention in their children's religious education.   • "Defending Our Lives"
    Cambridge Documentary Films ( 30 min.). Adocumentary that exposes the magnitue and severity of domestic violence in this county. The devastating accounts of the womrn features in this film reveal the failure of the criminal justice system and of our society as a whole to protect the victims of domestic violence. Includes study and resource guide.

    Radio Shack; (1 hr.). Primarily lecture format with a variety of speakers. Good ecudational value for professionals.
  • "Escape The Abuse-Leaving Smart"
    1995, produced by KING TV (20 min.). this tape offers guidance and support for women wishing to leave an abusive relationship in a way that increases their safety and that of theor children while offering them the greatest chance of success.
  • "Hear Their Cries: A Religious Response to Child Abuse"
    Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence (48 min.). Religious responses to child abuse. Educational program for clergy, lay leaders, religious educators, seminary faculty and students, denominational staff and local child abuse councils. Includes study guide for discussion leaders.

    The true story of a local women.
  • "In Love and In Danger"
    1997, Junior League of Ann Arbor, Michigan (15 min.). Teen dating violence: emphasizing how stereotypes are formed and reinforced in early adolescence. This video illustrates how some young men intimidate and control young women in dating relationships. It is designed for teachers, partnets and teens. Comes with a short study guide.
  • "Just to Have a Peaceful Life"
    Terra Nova Films (10 min). Profiles a woman married to an abusive husband for 45 years. After five children and leaving him three times, she finally returned again because of financial and health issues only to die at age 63 without ever achieving the peaceful life she longed for.

    1998 domestic violence campaign sponsored by the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Seattle Mariners. Includes three TV and three radio ads. the TV portion is closed captioned and one radio as is in Spanish.
  • "Rites of Violence/ The Duluth Project"
  • "Scared Silent"
    Taped from the Oprah show (20 min.). A personal story of child sexual abuse told by the victim, the perpetrator, and other family members. It shows the long lasting, generational effects of abuse. Powerful and real.
  • "Survivors"
    Intermedia (16 min.). An animated film on domestic violence. This compelling new award-winning program uses powerful animated images to illustrate interviews of survivors of domestic violence and the counselors who work with them. The strong message and unique presentation allows the audience to hear and see these stories as if for the first time.
  • "Theoretical Framework For Understanding Battering"
    A speech by Susan Schecter.
  • "When Domestic Violence Comes to Work"
    Intermedia, two (2) tapes. Employer version (31 min.), Employees version (20 min.). This program was created with a strong commitment to address issues and prevent domestic violence. Although DV begins at home, it can follow the victim to work where the abuse will affect employers, mangers, and employees. Curriculum/ workbooks/ overheads/ and resource materials included.
  • "Wings Like A Dove"
    Healing for the abused Christian woman.
  • "You're Hurting Me Too!"
    1996 (24 min.). Examines the short and long term effects of DV on children. The video stresses the importance of providing children with counseling, getting them out of the violent home and giving children a positive message about dealing with anger. Interviews with expert Casey Gwinn, Assistance City Attorney, San Diego and Judge Monica Benton. Interviews with adult and teen survivors, mixed with moving interviews of young children give the viewer a very real picture of abuse. Comes with a short study guide.
