Our Annual Awards event was held this year on May 24 at the Silverdale Lutheran Church on Ridgetop Drive. The purpose of the event is to honor those in our community who work especially hard to eliminate DV in Kitsap County.
This year we honored the youth at Silverdale Lutheran Church for their many outreach effort to the needy, many of whom are victims of domestic violence. The group worked with families at El Centro de la Familia, held an annual trip to serve meals and pass out gifts at a Seattle men's shelter and also made service trips to Mexico to help families build homes in Tijuana and to Arizona.
We honored Ray Moody, a criminal investigator with the Department of Defense, for his pursuit of domestic violence cases that resulted in 25 prosecutions for aggravated domestic violence in a two year period. He also instructs first responders about domestic violence and has played a major role in improving DV training for patrol officers.
The audience was treated to a play called the "Rule of Thumb" presented by a group of women from Bainbridge Island. EAch woman giving a personal account of the many different faces of domestic violence.
The audience enjoyed the play, the awards and the company of others who gathered to celebrate and thank those in our communtiy who work!

Linda Kroum and Gonzalo Caballero, mother and son, who presented workshops and panels on domestic violence to Native American and Hispanic groups through the YWCA.
